Lawyers for both Richard Liu and Jingyao Liu said that the misunderstanding caused by an accident in Minnesota in 2018 took up a lot of social resources and caused serious trouble to each other's families. Today, in order to avoid further litigation damage, the two sides decided to clear up misunderstandings and reach a settlement to put an end to this incident.

In addition to the above statement, Ms. Liu Jingyao, her representatives and lawyers will not make any comments, and the two sides will not issue any other joint statement.

CTOnews.com learned that in 2019, Liu Qiangyao sued Liu Qiangdong and his company JD.com, claiming that she was raped by Liu Qiangdong after a business dinner in Minneapolis in August 2018.

In December 2018, the Hengneiping County Prosecutor's Office refused to file criminal charges against Liu Qiangdong. County Attorney Mike Freeman said they were unlikely to prove his guilt within reasonable suspicion.

Liu Xieyao asked the court to make a punitive judgment on Liu Qiangdong. The jury also needs to find JD.com responsible for Liu Xieyao's compensatory losses. Jingyao accused Liu Qiangdong of intentionally harming her, illegally restricting her freedom and sexually assaulting her.

Subsequently, Liu Qiangdong and his lawyer denied the charges against him and argued that Liu Xieyao "tried to obtain monetary compensation with false allegations of rape as a weapon." Liu Qiangdong told Minneapolis investigators after his arrest that the sexual contact between the two men was "voluntary" and "spontaneous".

The case was scheduled to be heard in Hennepin County District Court in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, on October 3.
