CTOnews.com, October 2, according to openEuler release, in September 2022, with the efforts of Kirin Software and Euler open source community developers, a new release of NestOS based on openEuler version 22.09 will be released. You can obtain an image (nestos.openeuler.org) on NestOS's official website.

NestOS is a cloud pedestal operating system incubated in the open source community of Euler, which integrates rpm-ostree support, ignition configuration and other technologies. It adopts the design idea of double-root file system and atomization update, and uses nestos-assembler to quickly integrate and build. It has released a stable version based on openEuler 22.03 LTS in March this year, maintaining warehouse 50cycles in the community and involving sig group 6 +.

CTOnews.com learned that in NestOS, version 22.09 of openEuler, a new build tool, nestos-assembler container image, was introduced, and K8S Magi openstack was adapted and optimized according to the characteristics of NestOS, bringing a new installation experience.

Here are the features of the new version of NestOS.

NestOS-assemblernestos-assembler (nosa for short) is a container mirroring tool for building NestOS. The container integrates some scripts, rpm packages and tools needed to build NestOS, and encapsulates the whole process of building NestOS in one container. Currently, the container image of nosa version 22.09 has been released to OEPKG, based on which the construction of NestOS version 22.09 can be completed, and the kola component in nosa supports testing qcow2 and iso images of NestOS. For more information on nosa, please see the introduction of nestos-assembler components.

NestOS integrates mainstream container engines such as iSulad, Docker and Podman, which are specially designed to run containerized workloads. NestOS uses ignition ignition file configuration system, whether virtualized or bare metal, NestOS always starts from the same place, and ignition can be saved in the server for NestOS remote access to achieve centralized configuration management, which makes it possible to achieve containerized deployment of K8S and large-scale deployment of OpenStack.

NestOS containerized deployment K8SKubernetes has introduced the command line tool kubeadm since version 1.4, which aims to simplify the installation process of clusters and solve the problem of high availability of Kubernetes clusters. However, using the kubeadm command line tool to install the cluster, you still need to perform many steps to complete the deployment of Kubernetes, the whole process is complex and error-prone.

To simplify the deployment of Kubernetes, the NestOS cloud base operating system supports custom integration of kubeadm, kubelet, kubectl and other binaries, as well as other package dependencies required for Kubernetes deployment. And through the ignition file mechanism to provide native K8S deployment scheme, while installing NestOS, you can complete the deployment of the resources required by Kubernetes, as well as the creation of master and node nodes. For more information, please see NestOS containerized deployment K8S.

NestOS containerized deployment OpenStackOpenStack is a cloud platform management project, which is composed of Nova, Keystone, Glance, Swift, Cinder and other important components. It can provide software for the construction and management of public, private and hybrid clouds, and support virtual machine software or containers such as KVM, Xen, Lvc, Docker, etc. Currently, NestOS supports containerized deployment of OpenStack.

NestOS is designed to be managed as an immutable infrastructure, and when the machine is created, if you want to update the configuration, you can replace the machine with the new ignition ignition file configuration. Based on this feature, we can easily scale when the OpenStack load increases. X for more information, please see NestOS containerized deployment OpenStack.

The NestOS-22.03-LTS-SP1 version is under construction and new features are being introduced, and interested developers can join sig-CloudNative and sig-K8sDistro.
