CTOnews.com, Oct. 2 (Xinhua)-- Asian Science and Technology Publishing House said that chip maker Nvidia intends to do the same thing as Apple, rejecting TSMC's 2023 price increase plan.

Industry insiders say TSMC will further raise its contract price next year by about 60.9 per cent, depending on the process, but the rate of increase later disclosed was reduced to 3 per cent. 6 per cent.

The latest rumor is that TSMC's biggest customer, apple, which currently accounts for more than 25% of TSMC's 2021 revenue, refused to raise prices. TSMC said it would not comment.

A source said that Nvidia, another big TSMC customer, plans to ask for the same treatment as Apple. And industry insiders predict that MediaTek, the third largest customer of TSMC, may also be exempted from price increases.

Last year, TSMC's top three customers were Apple, followed by AMD and MediaTek, according to market research firm Statista.

CTOnews.com has reported that TSMC's 2021 results showed that TSMC's operating revenue in 2021 was NT $1.59 trillion, an increase of 19% over the same period last year, and net profit of NT $597.1 billion was up 15% from the same period last year.

By geographical region, the US accounts for 64 per cent of revenue, Taiwan 13 per cent, Chinese mainland 10 per cent, Europe, the Middle East and Africa 6 per cent and Japan 4 per cent. Among them, only Chinese mainland revenue declined compared with the same period last year.

According to product applications, mobile phone market revenue accounts for 44%, high-performance computing accounts for 37%, Internet of things accounts for 8%, cars account for 4%, and digital consumer electronics account for 4%. Among them, automotive electronics had the highest year-on-year growth, reaching 51.2%.

According to the process, the revenue of 5 nm accounts for 19% of the total revenue, 19% of the total revenue, 31% of the total revenue of 16 nm, the proportion of 14% of 28 nm, the proportion of 11%. Among them, the 5-nanometer process increased by 188% compared with the same period last year.

Market watchers believe that Apple has always been TSMC's biggest customer, and TSMC has secured orders for almost all Apple custom chips carried by iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and other devices.

As Apple shifted the processors of Mac computers from Intel to self-research, the person pointed out that TSMC was the biggest beneficiary. It is reported that TSMC signed a contract with Apple to manufacture M-series Mac chips.

Observers also say Apple's just-released iPhone SE, iPad Air, Mac Studio and Studio Display series all use self-developed chips made by TSMC. For example, the M1 Ultra processor on Apple's new Mac Studio desktop is made using TSMC's 5nm process.
