Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
According to the news at noon on October 1, Beijing time, at Tesla's "2022 AI Day" event, the company's CEO Elon Musk (Elon Musk) and the head of his artificial intelligence and hardware team gave speeches one after another.
At AI Day in August 2021, Musk said Tesla was developing a humanoid robot, known as Tesla Bot or Optimus. But because it was only a prototype product, it didn't show much of the real effect at that time, just looking for a dancer to dress up as Tesla Bot.
This year, Musk and Tesla employees finally demonstrated the walking and waving effect of this "roughly developed robot". They said the robot walked on the stage for the first time without any mechanical support.
"We will talk about the progress of FSD in artificial intelligence and how it can be more generally applied to practical artificial intelligence problems, such as humanoid robots and other aspects," Musk said in the hot phase. I think Tesla's current work is expected to make a meaningful contribution to general artificial intelligence. "
He continued: "I think from a corporate governance perspective, Tesla is very suitable for doing this because we are a listed company with only one class of shares. This means that Tesla is actually a publicly controlled company. This is actually a good thing, because if I am crazy, you can fire me-this is very important. Maybe I'm not crazy."
Musk co-founded OpenAI, an artificial intelligence company, but later quit. In 2015, OpenAI announced that it had been able to train neural networks to enable robotic arms to recover the Rubik's cube in a human way.
Musk said at the 2021 AI Day event: "it should have the ability to complete instructions like'go to the store and buy these things for me'." Musk later said that Tesla's robot will one day be worth more than Tesla's car, and thousands of such robots will be put into the Tesla factory to produce cars and batteries.
Tesla employees demonstrated the possible functions of the robot in the future, such as built-in brakes designed by Tesla to simulate human muscles, and equipped with adaptive robot arms that can grasp and manipulate a variety of objects.
Milan Milan Kovac, engineering director of Tesla Autopilot, said that the experience of developing driving aids, especially computer vision systems for Tesla cars, could help them adapt humanoid robots to practical application scenarios.
Although robotics experts believe that there is no need to develop humanoid biped robots to be used in factories, Tesla employees elaborated on their dedication to humanoid robots. They say the company is currently developing a special battery and brake to minimize energy consumption and allow the robot to run all day on a single charge.
Tesla Autopilot staff also elaborated on how to achieve self-driving goals without adding new hardware.
In the past, the Autopilot team relied heavily on manual data tags to judge and describe objects captured by Tesla's car cameras and sensors. Data labels mark road boundaries, lane lines, or overlapping objects-such as pedestrians blocking stop signs.
Then these marked videos are used to train Tesla's neural network to improve the effect of assisted driving so as to avoid obstacles automatically.
Now, Tesla has developed an automatic tagging technology that can handle 500000 video clips every day. In the end, although it is up to humans to finally confirm the label, the work efficiency has indeed been greatly improved.
Tesla also elaborated on their progress in self-research chips and data infrastructure. However, Tesla did not disclose when driverless cars will be able to drive safely on normal roads without human intervention.
Musk said that Tesla held AI Day events and displayed robot prototypes "to persuade the most talented people in the world like you to join Tesla and help us make it a reality."
Musk, as always, stated his grand goal: "this is definitely a complete change in human civilization."
It is worth mentioning that Musk also tweeted after stepping down: "there will definitely be a Catwoman version of our Optimus robot."
Musk admitted in the question and answer session that the development of humanoid robots does not fully match Tesla's mission to accelerate the transformation of sustainable energy. But he says Optimus has sublimated Tesla's mission into "creating a better future".
Musk believes that within three to five years, consumers will be able to buy Optimus Prime humanoid robots.
One of the attendees asked Musk if he thought Tesla would provide the Dojo supercomputer he used for artificial intelligence machine learning to other companies. Musk replied that he thought it would make more sense to offer a Dojo service similar to Amazon Cloud AWS, which he described as an online service that "helps you train models faster with less money."
Big promises whenever Musk makes big promises, skeptics scoff and fans cheer.
The star CEO has been promising self-driving electric cars since 2016 and has raised a lot of money. Tesla promised shareholders that the company's self-driving technology could turn customers' cars into self-driving taxis as long as the software was upgraded.
Musk said at the end of 2017 that he would demonstrate the driverless journey between the east and west coasts of the United States, but so far, Tesla has only launched an auxiliary driving system that requires constant supervision by human drivers.
Tesla's driving assistance uses controversial product names such as Autopilot, Enhanced Autopilot, FSD and FSD Beta, and has been subject to a number of safety investigations by the US federal and state governments. They were also charged with using false propaganda.
Tesla is not plain sailing in factory automation. They had previously tried to complete multiple links such as automobile production and quality inspection through automation technology, but Musk admitted in 2018 that "excessive automation in Tesla was a mistake" and "humans were underestimated".
Tesla is expected to disclose the car production and delivery report for the third quarter in a few days. Among the data disclosed by Tesla, the delivery volume is the closest to the actual sales, so shareholders will pay close attention to the quarterly delivery report.
