CTOnews.com, September 30 (Xinhua)-- according to Wei.com, a supply chain source said that Sony's silicon-based OLED has passed Apple's test certification and increased equipment procurement to expand production capacity and ensure Apple's silicon-based OLED order demand.

According to sources, the silicon-based OLED supplied by Sony to Apple's MR devices adopts the "double white OLED + color film" scheme, because the silicon-based RGB OLED is difficult to mass produce, so it can only use a more mature "white OLED + color film" scheme, but the brightness of the "single layer white OLED + color film" scheme does not meet the needs of Apple MR devices, so in order to improve the brightness, Sony can only adopt the "double white OLED + color film" scheme, which can not only increase the brightness. And increase life expectancy.

According to a report released by NH Investment&Securities, a South Korean securities company, Apple's MR will be equipped with 3000PPI silicon-based OLED (OLED on Silicon), which will start mass production around November and debut in the first quarter of next year, but at this stage, the main manufacturers that can meet the silicon-based OLED needs of Apple MR devices are Sony and LG Display.

CTOnews.com has reported that Apple has improved its desired specifications from the OLED on Silicon or OLEDoS (silicon-based organic light-emitting diode) panels on Samsung and LG displays.

According to sources, Apple initially asked for 2800ppi, but now it has increased to 3500ppi. They added that Apple may want to increase consumer immersion in the first hybrid reality device to be launched next year.

According to reports, OLEDoS uses silicon instead of glass as the substrate of the panel and can be used in micro display technology for hybrid and virtual reality devices.

The OLEDoS panels displayed by Samsung and LG are not expected to be used by Apple for its first hybrid reality device next year. Japan's Sony will supply the first batch, while South Korean counterparts are expected to enter the supply chain in 2024.

LG showed that it had studied the area before Samsung, but the latter began to show interest in the area in the third quarter.

Apple and Meta have asked Samsung to show that it is developing the technology this quarter. The display panel maker has been slow to get involved in OLEDoS because it believes it is a small market, but Samsung executives have warned Samsung to evaluate the technology quickly, according to sources.

Samsung also plans to develop 6600ppi LED on Silicon and OLEDoS technology. Samsung believes that the entry barrier for OLEDoS is lower than that of LEDoS and hopes to be ahead of its competitors LG display and Sony in the latter technology, according to sources.
