In terms of scale expansion, foreign media recently mentioned SK Siltron, which announced on the 29th that they would invest 2.3 trillion won in the next five years to expand semiconductor fab. This part of the investment plan is divided into three stages, and from 2022 to 2026, the board has approved 855 billion won for the expansion of the 12-inch silicon wafer plant, and the possibility of an additional investment of 400 billion won will be studied in the first half of next year.

Among other wafer makers, Global Wafer has also announced in the first half of the year that it will invest $5 billion to build a 12-inch silicon fab in Sherman, Texas, which is scheduled to start by the end of the year and be completed in 2025, with a monthly production capacity of 1.2 million wafers.

Sumco, the world's second-largest wafer maker, also announced in September last year that it plans to invest 2.4 trillion won in a new plant and plan to start production in the second half of this year.
