Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens, soft media new friends 2010825, Sentinel, dousx for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, Sept. 30, Microsoft today pushed an update to 22621.730 KB5017385 for Beta preview users, bringing back a tablet-optimized taskbar.

Build 22623.730: new features

Build 22621.730: the new feature is turned off by default, and you can find updates to download the new feature again.

What's new in Build 22623.730: tablet-optimized taskbar:

Microsoft has reintroduced a tablet-optimized taskbar designed to make it easier for users to use their devices as tablets. When the user removes or turns back the keyboard on the two-in-one device, the taskbar is automatically converted to this optimized version.

The tablet-optimized taskbar has two states: collapse and expand. In the collapsed state, the taskbar will be hidden, providing more screen space for the user and preventing accidental invocation of the taskbar when the tablet is handheld. In the expanded state, the taskbar is optimized to make it easier to touch. Users can easily switch between the two states by sliding up and down the bottom of the device.

System tray update:

This update introduces system tray updates that affect all device types, not just two-in-one devices. The user will see circular focus and hover handling on all icons in the lower right corner. However, this version cannot drag and drop or rearrange system tray icons, and the latest Dev preview version is supported.

Build 22623.730 changes and improvements: file Explorer:

The home page now searches for recently opened Microsoft cloud files to find users who use their Microsoft account signatures or set up their Microsoft accounts to connect to the profile. Home page search can now show recent file activity for cloud files in the details view, or you can search for Microsoft cloud files using other file properties, such as file location, extension, and activity.

The File Explorer search will now display the results directly as the user enters, and the complete search results page will be updated in real time without pressing enter.

Build 22623.730 repair: system Tray Update:

Due to changes in the system tray in the non-tablet optimization solution, the taskbar will no longer flash.

Fixed an issue that caused some taskbars or their icons (such as search) to get stuck in the wrong theme color when switching between light and dark themes.

The date and time will no longer be stuck on one side of the screen due to system tray changes.

Note: these optimizations need to open the taskbar for tablet optimization

Start menu:

Fixed an issue that caused some Insider start menus to crash.

Fixed an issue where the start menu recommendation section might accidentally display one column instead of two.

If the user changes the application associated with a particular file type, the icons displayed for any of these file types should now be updated in the recommended section.

Joint fix of both versions: fixed issues affecting some processors. This problem occurs when the user turns on Hyper-V and kernel direct memory access (DMA) protection.

Fixed a problem affecting the Japanese input method Editor (IME). Text reconversion failed when using some third-party virtual desktops.

Fixed an issue that could cause the application to stop responding, which could occur when the input queue overflowed.

Fixed a problem that prevented users from logging in to various Microsoft Office 365 applications, which affected Outlook, Word, Teams, and so on.

Fixed a problem affecting graphics drivers that use d3d9on12.dll.

Fixed a problem that caused Microsoft App Store updates to fail.

Fixed issues affecting LanmanWorkstation services. This issue leaks memory when the user installs a network drive.

Fixed issues affecting Miracast UI. Sometimes, when a user projects a device that uses DeviceObjectType:Aep, it shuts down prematurely.

Fixed a problem affecting Task Manager. It stops working when the user switches between light and dark modes or changes the accent color.

Fixed a problem affecting three Chinese character fonts. When the user formats these characters in bold, the width size displays an error.

Fixed a problem affecting Microsoft's official and third-party input method editors (IME). They stop working when the user closes the IME window. This occurs if IME uses the Windows text Services Framework (TSF) 1.0.

Fixed a problem affecting the IE mode of Edge browsers. It prevents the user from opening the web page, which occurs when the user enables Windows Defender Application Protection (WDAG) and the network isolation policy is not configured.

Fixed a problem that affected the IE mode of Edge browsers. The title of pop-up windows and tabs were displayed incorrectly.

Fixed an issue that prevented credential UI from being displayed in Edge browser IE mode.

Fixed a problem that affected certificate mapping and lsass.exe might stop working in schannel.dll.

Known problem: general:

Reports that audio stopped working in the most recent Beta preview are being investigated.

Tablet optimized taskbar:

The taskbar sometimes flashes when switching between desktop posture and tablet posture.

When switching between desktop and tablet poses, the taskbar takes longer than expected to transition to a touch-optimized version.

Using left or right edge gestures may cause the widget or notification center (respectively) to overlap or be truncated with the taskbar.

When you use the lower-right edge gesture to view the Quick Settings, the taskbar sometimes stays expanded rather than closed to the collapsed state.

The taskbar expansion sometimes crashes when there is no running window on the desktop.

CTOnews.com learned that members of the Office Preview experience can currently try out the new Outlook for Windows. Members of the Office Preview experience running Beta or Dev channels will see a "try the new Outlook" switch in the upper-right corner of the classic Outlook for Windows.

Just open it and follow the instructions on the screen. Over the next few weeks, members of the Windows Preview experience will be able to have this experience in a similar way in the Windows Mail app.
