New feature: widget settings:

Build 25211 separates widget selector from widget settings to make it easier for users to find and interact with each view.

The widget selector can now be opened from the + button, and the widget settings can be opened from the I button. Microsoft has also redesigned the space that selectors take up in widget settings.

When the user clicks the "I" button above to open the widget settings, the user will see three taskbar behaviors that can be opened or closed.

Users can choose to:

Controls whether the widget panel opens when you hover over the taskbar icon.

Controls whether the widget displays a notification tag on the taskbar.

Controls whether the real-time widget content on the taskbar displays only the weather.

Changes and improvements: taskbar:

The Task Manager has been added to the context menu when you right-click the taskbar, which must be what many old Windows users want.

System Tray:

This version adds preliminary support for users to rearrange system tray icons, and further improvements are coming.

File Explorer:

Fixed an issue where the top of File Explorer (with search and address boxes) could not interact when File Explorer was in full screen mode (F11).

Set up:

Users will no longer be able to uninstall interdependent applications (such as games running on Steam and Steam) or repair Win32 applications under Settings > applications > installed apps. Users can still modify and uninstall Win32 applications that are not interdependent.

Fix: general:

Start introducing server-side fixes for issues that cause incorrect date, time, and time zone settings to display incorrect messages.

File Explorer:

Set up:

Fixed possible setting crash when changing the name of the mobile hotspot.

Updated the example used in short-time selection under time and language > language and region > region format to make the 12-hour option (compared to 24 hours) more obvious by displaying morning and afternoon times.

Task Manager:

Adjusted the chart on the performance page to use more transparency to make it easier to see the gridlines below.

Another fix was made to improve the reliability of the task manager.

Fixed an issue where you might see a black flicker when you start the task manager in light mode.

Fixed some issues where the font colors of some elements are incorrect / unreadable when using contrast themes.

Other:

Fixed an issue where the narrator would select a date and time from the taskbar when folding to read the details of the open calendar.

Fixed an issue where explorer.exe crashed repeatedly in Windows Sandbox with a tablet-optimized taskbar and updated system trays.

Fixed an issue that might cause some applications to hang when opening the Open File dialog box.

Fixed an issue that caused some Insider screens to blacken when HDR was recently enabled.

Fixed an issue where the process might continue to run even if the process was no longer used after using the Open with dialog box.

Fixed an issue that caused WSL2 users to increase CPU usage on ARM64 PC, even if WSL was idle.

Fixed an issue where closing the print dialog box might cause the application to crash in recent versions.

Known problem: general:

Reports that the audio stopped working after upgrading to the latest version are being investigated.

Reports that different applications are starting to crash in recent versions are being investigated.

Reports that various UI elements in the application seem to disappear and reappear in recent versions are being investigated.

Tablet optimized taskbar:

The taskbar sometimes flashes when switching between desktop posture and tablet posture.

When switching between desktop and tablet poses, the taskbar takes longer than expected to transition to a touch-optimized version.

Using left or right edge gestures may cause the widget or notification center (respectively) to overlap or be truncated with the taskbar.

When you use the lower-right edge gesture to view the Quick Settings, the taskbar sometimes stays expanded rather than closed to the collapsed state.

The taskbar expansion sometimes crashes when there is no running window on the desktop.

Widget:

In a right-to-left display language, such as Arabic, when you click the expanded view of the widget panel, the content is animated outside the view until the panel is resized.

The notification badge number may appear misaligned on the taskbar.

CTOnews.com learned that members of the Office Preview experience can currently try out the new Outlook for Windows. Members of the Office Preview experience running Beta or Dev channels will see a "try the new Outlook" switch in the upper-right corner of the classic Outlook for Windows.

Just open it and follow the instructions on the screen. Over the next few weeks, members of the Windows Preview experience will be able to have this experience in a similar way in the Windows Mail app.

Microsoft is introducing an update to Snipping Tool (version 11.2209.2.0) to Windows Preview experience members on the Dev channel.
