The test results show that R17 RedCap has changed from standard to commercial, and the industrial chain has initially met the commercial conditions.

Over the past three years of commercial use of 5G in China, China has built 2.102 million base stations of 5G and led the world in the integration of 5G and vertical industries. 5G applications have covered 40 major categories of the national economy. 6500 5G virtual private networks have been built. In September, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology Ningbo "5G + Industrial Internet" site work meeting issued "5G full connection Factory Construction Guide". The document proposes that in the next few years, ten thousand enterprises will be promoted to carry out the construction of 5G full connection factories. We will build 1000 classified and distinctive factories and 100 benchmarking factories.

With the in-depth and large-scale development of 5G and industry integration applications, the expensive price of 5G terminal modules is becoming more and more prominent. although the price of 5G industry modules has dropped from 1500 yuan in 2019 to 450 yuan in 2022, compared with the price of less than 100 yuan in 4G, the cost pressure on the scale of the industry is still very large.

The 3GPP R17 standard protocol was frozen in June this year, and RedCap is the key technology for medium-and high-speed IoT scenarios. By reducing the terminal spectrum bandwidth to 20MHz and using 1R or 2R receiving antennas, RedCap can significantly reduce the price of 5G modules to less than 100RMB in the future, while inheriting the advantages of 5G network slicing and low delay. Compared with 4G IoT technology, RedCap has intergenerational advantages, better performance and stronger functions, and there is a high demand for commercial acceleration of RedCap in the industry.

CTOnews.com learned that the RedCap key technology test includes RedCapUE basic residence and access, handoff, RedCapUE and ordinary 5G UE sharing initial BWP, RedCapUE independent uplink / downlink initial BWP, uplink / downlink speed and other tests. This test will promote the maturity of 5G RedCap network and chip industry chain, and lay a solid foundation for commercial use of 5G IoT.
