Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, September 29 (Xinhua) earlier this year, scientists found microplastic particles in human blood for the first time. The effects of these plastic particles on human health are not clear, but they can be circulated in the body and deposited in organs.
In addition, scientists at the Free University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands analyzed blood samples from 22 blood donors and found plastic particles in 17 samples. The particles were determined to contain polystyrene, which is found in plastic bottles used to package food and beverages, a study published in Environmental International.
According to the Science and Technology Daily, Professor Xia Yankai of Nanjing Medical University, together with Professor Luo Yongming of Nanjing Institute of soil Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, have found a certain number and different types of microplastics and dye particles in human thrombus samples for the first time, and the relevant research results have also been published in the international academic journal Journal of Advanced Research.
"We believe that environmental factors, especially microplastics and dye particles, may be potentially related to the formation of thrombosis," author Xia Yankai said in an interview with reporters. "the findings of this study also remind us of the need to strengthen environmental pollution control and emission monitoring of microplastics and dye particles."
"Microplastics are becoming a new type of global pollutant, a kind of refractory plastic particles only nanometer and micron in diameter. They exist in large numbers in the ocean and soil, and can even be absorbed into the food chain by the rhizomes of plants."
CTOnews.com learned that plastics less than 5mm in diameter, or even as small as micro-nanometers, are called microplastics, and they may be an "invisible killer" of human health.
