CTOnews.com New references found on Apple's website referring to the iPhone 14 Plus as "iPhone 14 Max" suggest that Apple's original non-Pro 6.7-inch device was intentionally named "iPhone 14 Max," but Apple later changed its mind.

Dutch blog iCreate found two examples on Apple's website where Apple referred to the iPhone 14 Plus as "iPhone 14 Max." First, in a support document to help users identify the iPhone, Apple named the five color images of the iPhone 14 Plus model "iPhone-14-Max-colors."

Second, Apple clearly lists "iPhone 14 Max," along with the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max, on a page that provides compliance and regulatory information about the company's products.

In the previous intensive iPhone 14 series revelations, Apple iPhone 14 Max models frequently appeared. It wasn't until a week before Apple's iPhone launch event that revelations revealed that the model was being called "iPhone 14 Plus," the first time Apple had reused the "Plus" name since the iPhone 8.

An analysis in June suggested that using "iPhone 14 Plus" instead of " iPhone 14 Max" might be a better choice to reduce confusion among Apple consumers. Since " iPhone 14 Max" and iPhone 14 Pro Max sound almost identical, this means that some customers may not be able to distinguish the nuances in the name and end up buying the wrong model.

CTOnews.com has learned that the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus have the same A15 chip, features and camera, with the latter having a larger screen and battery. Apple may have thought "Plus" was a better name for the iPhone 14 standard version of the larger screen device. The iPhone 14 Plus has started accepting pre-orders this month and will be delivered to customers starting Friday, October 7.
