CTOnews.com September 29, Bloomberg reported yesterday that people familiar with the matter revealed that Apple abandoned plans to increase production of the new iPhone 14 series this year because the expected surge in demand failed to materialize. People familiar with the matter said Apple had told suppliers to withdraw plans to increase the number of iPhone 14 series assemblies by 6 million units in the second half of this year. Apple's replacement plan is to produce 90 million units during this period, roughly the same as last year's level and in line with Apple's initial forecast for this summer.

However, according to the Paper News, it has been learned from supply chain stakeholders that supply chain manufacturers have not received Apple's notice of order adjustment for the iPhone 14 series, and the total number of orders has remained unchanged, but the iPhone 14 Pro series has been allocated more orders.

The supply chain said orders for the iPhone 14 series were 95 million units, compared with 85 million for the iPhone 13 series last year. The person also said that the short-term demand after the launch of the iPhone 14 series standard version is not as good as that of the Pro series, with some allocation adjustments while the total order remains unchanged, and the Pro volume is larger, but the total order quantity has remained unchanged. There is no so-called plan to increase production or cut orders now.

CTOnews.com learned that today's well-known Apple analyst Guo Mingxi also pointed out that Apple's rumors of giving up iPhone production are a bit strange. According to his research, Apple has plans to convert the iPhone 14/14 Plus production line to the iPhone 14 Pro / 14 Pro Max /reduced price iPhone 13, but has not heard of any overall iPhone production plan.

He reiterated his forecast for the iPhone 14 series, i.e., iPhone 14 Pro series shipment forecast will grow by about 10%, in favor of iPhone ASP (average selling price) and product mix in the fourth quarter of this year. Demand for iPhone 14 and 14 Plus is clearly sluggish, but increased orders for iPhone 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max and price-cut iPhone 13 should offset potential cuts in iPhone 14 and iPhone 14Plus, and total iPhone shipments are expected to be in line with expectations for the full year of 2022 and the fourth quarter of 2022.
