CTOnews.com, September 29 (Xinhua)-- OpenAI has cancelled the waiting list for access to its text generation image system DALL-E 2, which means that anyone can immediately register to use this artificial intelligence art generator.

The company released its first version of DALL-E in January 2021, which impressed artificial intelligence experts and the public with its ability to turn any text description into a unique image. Then there were other systems for producing images based on text, and the speed and quality were comparable to those of DALL-E.

OpenAI, which gets a lot of money from the technology giant Microsoft, has been cautious about publicly releasing DALL-E. Experts point out that the ability of text production image systems to produce unapproved nudity and lifelike images is potentially destructive and becomes material for harassment, advocacy and misinformation.

OpenAI has taken a number of measures to eliminate these effects, including filtering sexual and violent images from its training data and refusing to generate images based on similar explicit prompts. However, the company has also been criticized for what some see as overly restrictive or clumsy ways to mitigate harm.

Others criticized the company for trying to address biases like hackers. For example, DALL-E invisibly inserted phrases such as "black" and "Asian female" into user text descriptions that did not specify gender or race to encourage the system to avoid generating white images (OpenAI confirmed to The Verge that they used this method), which did reduce the bias in DALL-E output images. But some users have noticed that it also creates unwanted images that do not match their instructions.

In today's blog post, OpenAI said they are satisfied with the improvements in their security system. "in the past few months, we have made our filters more powerful in rejecting attempts to generate sex, violence and other content that violate our content policy, and to build new detection and response technologies to prevent abuse."

The company also said it was testing DALL-E 's API, allowing the company to use the system's output to develop its own applications and plug-ins. This will make it easier for OpenAI to commercialize DALL-E output, for example, by making it possible to combine the system with the tools used by illustrators and designers.

CTOnews.com learned that anyone who registers to visit DALL-E will receive 50 points for free, followed by another 15 points a month, each of which can be used to generate a picture, which can be purchased for $15 (about 107.85 yuan). According to OpenAI, about 1.5 million DALL-E users generate more than 2 million images a day.
