CTOnews.com, September 29, iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro can communicate with emergency services via satellite. Although the feature won't be available until November, Apple is ready to launch it in iOS 16.1, which will also include a "satellite connection demonstration" feature so that users can try a satellite connection without actually calling the emergency service.

CTOnews.com learned that Apple released iOS 16.1 Beta 3 to developers on Tuesday. By analyzing the internal files updated today, 9to5Mac found that Apple has added a number of satellite communications-related features (not yet enabled) to the iPhone 14 model.

It is not clear whether the emergency call via satellite will appear in iOS 16.1, as the update is expected to be released to the public in October, while Apple said the satellite feature would be available in November. However, iOS 16.1 Beta 3 also reveals something that was not mentioned before: the "satellite connection demonstration" feature.

With this feature, users will be able to understand how emergency calls work via satellite without having to test in remote areas without Wi-Fi and cellular signals. The code seen by 9to5Mac shows that the demo function works in much the same way as a satellite emergency call, so it can also guide users on how to use it in real life. The code says, "try the satellite connection demo. Learn how to connect to a satellite in an emergency. You can go to Settings > Emergency SOS at any time to try the demo."

Once the satellite connection demonstration function is available, it can be accessed at any time through the emergency call menu in the application. Users will need to be outdoors and can clearly see the sky in order to connect to the satellite.

Of course, when you use the demo function to connect the iPhone to a satellite, it won't actually call the emergency service. This is extremely important so that people don't call these services for fun or curiosity. It is worth noting that emergency calls via satellite send a text message with the location of the equipment to the emergency service or relay center.

It is worth mentioning that Apple iPhone 14 national version does not support satellite communications, the first batch only supports the United States and Canada.
