CTOnews.com, September 29, TrendForce Jibang Consulting latest report shows that due to a small amount of new capacity in the second quarter led to wafer shipment growth, as well as some wafer price increases, pushed up the top 10 wafer foundry output value of $33.2 billion (about 238.708 billion yuan) in the second quarter, but month-on-month growth slowed to 3.9% due to weaker consumer market conditions.

The report points out that with the launch of the new iPhone in the third quarter, it is expected to maintain a certain reserve momentum for the depressed market atmosphere, so it is expected that the top 10 wafer foundry revenue in the third quarter, driven by the high-price process, will maintain the growth trend, and the month-on-month growth rate is expected to be slightly higher than that in the second quarter.

Specifically, TSMC's second-quarter revenue was $18.15 billion (about 130.498 billion yuan), thanks to strong demand for HPC, IoT and automotive inventory, but month-on-month growth slowed to 3.5 per cent as wafer prices rose in the first quarter.

Samsung (Samsung) 7/6nm production capacity has been converted to the 5/4nm process, and the yield continues to improve, driving second-quarter revenue of $5.59 billion (about 40.192 billion yuan), an increase of 4.9% from the previous quarter. UMC's new 28/22nm capacity was successfully launched in the second quarter, leading to an increase in overall wafer shipments and average sales unit prices. The process node's revenue rose to 22% in this quarter, and revenue in the second quarter reached $2.45 billion (about 17.616 billion yuan), an increase of 8.1% from the previous quarter.

GlobalFoundries benefited from the release of a small amount of new capacity and LTA guarantees for most of its capacity, with second-quarter revenue of $1.99 billion (about 14.308 billion yuan), up 2.7 per cent from a month earlier. SMIC's second-quarter revenue reached $1.9 billion (about 13.661 billion yuan), up 3.3% from a month earlier, while the proportion of revenue in the smartphone sector fell to 25.4%, while the smart home sector retained strong growth momentum.

CTOnews.com learned that the sixth to tenth places are Huahong Group (HuaHong Group), Ligan (PSMC), World Advanced (VIS), Hefei Crystal Integration (Nexchip) and High Tower Semiconductor (Tower).
