According to introduction, 3GPP began to study and formulate 5G LAN specifications from R16 version, so that 5G network can support industrial network Ethernet communication, and at the same time has the capability of local area network service, promoting 5G network support for industrial communication.

This technical test mainly focuses on 3GPP R16 version, including 5G LAN function test and service test. The functional test mainly includes the basic functional requirements of 5G VN group management, 5G LAN PDU session management and 5G LAN user plane management, respectively verifying the static management and dynamic management functions of 5G VN group, PDU session management and N4 session management, as well as the support for 5G LAN based on three different user plane traffic forwarding modes of UPF local communication, N6 interface communication and N19 interface communication.

In this technical test, Ericsson provided core network and base station equipment supporting 5G LAN, and MediaTek provided test terminals supporting 5G LAN. Ericsson successfully completed all test items of 5G LAN functions based on Ethernet PDU, fully verifying the support of 5G core network for 5G VN group management, 5G LAN PDU session management and 5G LAN user plane management functions. At the same time, through DHCP service, multicast video playback service, etc., it is verified that terminals supporting 5G LAN can realize point-to-point communication, multicast and broadcast, and can fully support the requirements of vertical industry application scenarios for local area network.
