The BYOB (or "built-in buffer") reader allows developers to specify a buffer to read data instead of assigning a stream of new buffers to each block. In addition to potentially reducing memory pressure, this also allows developers to control the amount of data received because the amount of data returned by the stream cannot exceed the space in the buffer provided. The ability to read a specific amount of data from a port makes this API more familiar to developers who are used to programming Windows and POSIX API for serial devices, which run under the same "built-in buffer" principle. By contrast, the current API requires developers to code defensively against redundant and unneeded data, rather than just reading what they are going to deal with. "

In addition, the unprefixed hyphenate-character attribute CSS attribute is now stable and will be provided with Chrome 106. the "- webkit-hyphenate-character" attribute will be deprecated at a later unspecified date.

Another key improvement of Chrome 106is support for Intl.NumberFormat API v3. This release has the following new features:
