CTOnews.com, September 28, according to the official WeChat of China Information and Communications Academy, at the plenary meeting of the fourth Research Group (ITU-R SG4) of the Radio Bureau of the International Telecommunication Union on September 23, the international standard "Vision, needs and Evaluation methods of 5G Satellite Radio Interface" led by China Institute of Information and Communications (hereinafter referred to as "China Institute of Information and Communications") was formally adopted. It indicates that China has made great achievements in the international standardization of 5G satellite communications.

On this basis, ITU issued a circular letter and began to solicit candidates for 5G satellite technology from all over the world. According to the current work plan, the proposal for 5G satellite technical standards will be issued in the first half of 2025.

CTOnews.com learned that CICT said that in order to meet the needs of diversified application scenarios in the 5G period, the "5G Satellite Radio Interface Vision, needs and Evaluation methods" standard stipulated three major application scenarios for the 5G satellite part: eMBB-s (enhanced Mobile Broadband), mMTC-s (Mass Machine Communication), HRC-s (highly reliable Communication) and three terminal types, including handheld terminals, Internet of things terminals and VSAT terminals. Compared with the satellite part in 4G period, the key performance index of 5G satellite is more diversified, and the performance has been significantly improved.

In addition, the standard also defines the standards and methods for evaluating candidate technologies, and points out the direction for the formulation of detailed specification proposals for partial radio interfaces of 5G satellites. According to the thirteen key performance indicators of 5G satellite, the standard specifies the corresponding application scenarios, test environment, satellite system configuration, terminal configuration and so on.

According to reports, the 5G satellite international standard is led by the China Institute of Information and Communication, and its vision and technical indicators adopt the relevant contents of the research report "Research on Satellite Communication system based on 5G" of the China Communications Standardization Association. Participants include Citic Branch Mobile, Huawei, ZTE, Xiaomi, China Satcom, China Mobile, China Unicom, Telecom, Ziguang Zhanrui, Galaxy Aerospace, Asia Pacific Satellite, Jin Cigna, Frontier Exploration, Alibaba, Beijing University of posts and Telecommunications and other more than 20 enterprises, universities and scientific research institutions.
