Intel CEO Pat Kissinger presented the award to Torvalds in his opening speech at today's 2022 Innovation Conference. Torvalds is a Finnish-born American software engineer who created the Linux kernel, which is widely used in many Linux distributions and Android operating systems.

Kissinger suddenly invited Torvalds to the stage at the end of his opening speech. The two men recalled that they had met from a book about Intel 80386 processors. Torvalds said his book had been lost, and Kissinger gave him a signed copy.

Kissinger told Torvalds about his vision for open source over the next 20 years, and Torvalds replied that he was not a visionary, but more like a "drawing engineer". So he only looks at the next few versions, not 20 years.
