CTOnews.com Sept. 28, V News Agency announced that it will change its Steam promotion plan. The company said on Tuesday that from 2023 on the Gregorian calendar, it will replace the Lunar New year special with a spring sale as one of the four major seasonal specials. The 2023 spring sale will be held from March 16 to March 23.

"increasing spring sales is a common requirement of the developer and publisher community to create more space between the four major seasonal sales," V said in a blog post. "and provide more opportunities for developers to expand and implement their discounts throughout the year."

CTOnews.com learned that the Lunar New year sale on Steam dates back to 2016 and is a celebration for developers and customers springing up from Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea and other places.

As to why the sale was announced a few years later, V explained that it had received feedback over the years that the Lunar New year was often too close to the December festival sale. The V Society believes that many publishers will still offer game discounts during the Lunar New year through custom discount tools, but it will be more beneficial to customers if there is a longer gap between large seasonal specials across Steam.

The date of the upcoming seasonal sale (all Pacific time):

Autumn sale: November 22 to November 29 (PT)

Winter sale: December 22 to January 5 (PT)

Spring sale: March 16 to March 23 (PT)
