According to news on the evening of September 27, Beijing time, although Tesla recently upgraded its Shanghai plant, the company still plans to maintain production capacity at about 93% of its Shanghai plant until the end of the year.

This is a rare move for Tesla. Since the Shanghai factory opened in 2019, it has been running at full capacity. Recently, Tesla also increased its weekly production by 30% to a maximum of 22000 cars.

The upgraded Shanghai plant can produce 14000 Model Y and 8000 Model 3s a week, according to people familiar with the matter. But for the rest of the year, Tesla plans to produce 20500 cars a week, including 13000 Model Y and 7500 Model 3.

In the first eight months of this year, 60 per cent of electric cars produced at Tesla's Shanghai factory were sold in China, while the rest were exported to overseas markets such as Australia, Europe, Japan and Singapore.
