CTOnews.com, September 27 (Xinhua)-- car rental giant Hertz announced on September 27 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with BP Pulse, BP's electric vehicle charging business, to set up a network of charging posts in the United States to install thousands of charging piles at Hertz sites across the United States. The two companies expect about 3000 charging piles to operate at Hertz sites across the United States by the end of this year.

The agreement also involves managing Hertz's charging infrastructure through BP Pulse and customizing its Omega software to ensure that Hertz's growing fleet of electric leases recharges quickly and efficiently between leases. Omega supports fleet operations by automatically charging when electricity prices are low, while providing real-time visibility into electric vehicles, chargers, electricity consumption, and so on.

CTOnews.com learned that through large-scale purchases from Tesla, Polestar and General Motors, Hertz has formed a fleet of tens of thousands of electric vehicles, which can be rented at 500Hz locations in 38 states. Hertz aims to electrify 1/4 of its fleet by the end of 2024 and achieve sustained growth through the acquisition of a number of electric car manufacturers. Hertz has invested in thousands of charging stations around it, and the partnership with BP Pulse will enable Hertz to significantly expand its national charging footprint.

BP BP acquired fleet charging and energy management company Amply Power in 2021 as part of its commitment to develop mobility and fleet products and services in North America. Amply Power (now renamed BP Pulse) began installing charging infrastructure at 25 Hertz rental sites in multiple states in 2022.

BP Pulse is expanding its global high-speed charging network for cars, light commercial vehicles and trucks, and aims to have more than 100000 charging posts worldwide by 2030, about 90 per cent of which are fast or ultra-fast charging piles. The company is also working with fleet operators to accelerate the power transformation of its fleet.
