CTOnews.com Clipchamp on Windows 11 is a cloud-based video editor owned by Microsoft that is more appealing to Microsoft 365 and Office subscribers. Microsoft has not only simplified the cost of this subscription; Microsoft now offers "advanced filters and effects" for free users.

The first thing Microsoft did after acquiring Clipchamp in September 2021 was to abandon its complex pricing structure. Earlier, the video editor had four subscription levels. Free, Creative, Commercial and Business Platinum subscriptions range from free to $40 per month.

Microsoft reduced the number of subscriptions to just two: free and $12 per month. Essentials subscriptions cost $12 per month and grant access to Advanced Filters and Effects.

Clipchamp's image and video effects and filters library currently offers 57 filters, 9 of which are classified as advanced filters. These include warm country, dream, soft black and white, winter sunset, cool tones and sunrise. There are also a lot of sound clips, such as hip-hop, energy prelude, explosive Walk instrumental, dark electronic, whoosh bass. But dozens of extra music and SFX effects are classified as advanced.

Going forward, Microsoft will unlock access to premium packages for free to users with Microsoft 365 subscriptions. In other words, Microsoft is essentially adding perks to Clipchamp's "free" tier and is only available to Microsoft 365 subscribers. Subscriptions to Essentials give users access to content backups, premium audio, image and video inventory, and branding kits with logos, colors and fonts. There are also advanced filters and effects.

CTOnews.com has learned that Microsoft has started asking free users who want to try Clipchamp Essentials to link to Microsoft accounts before subscribing. In other words, in order to use Clipchamp and any of its features, users need to sign in to a Microsoft account.
