The center aims to serve the implementation of major national strategic tasks and key projects, and organizes units with strong scientific research strength, colleges and universities to carry out scientific research and engineering work, which is an important part of the national innovation system.

The engineering center, formerly known as the National remote Sensing Satellite Application Engineering Laboratory approved by the National Development and Reform Commission in 2008, is the only national engineering laboratory in the field of remote sensing in China. It has successively established a complete remote sensing satellite application technology chain and verification platform from satellite data receiving, processing, product development to sharing services. The laboratory passed the evaluation work organized by the National Development and Reform Commission in December 2021. Formally incorporated into the new sequence management of the National Engineering Research Center.

CTOnews.com learned that according to the official website of the National remote Sensing Satellite Application Engineering Laboratory, the laboratory shoulders the important mission of the implementation of major national projects and industrial development, around the strategic positioning of serving the country's major needs for earth observation, to carry out atmospheric, land and ocean remote sensing satellite application engineering technology research, and to develop optical, microwave, infrared, hyperspectral, polarization, electromagnetic, gravity and other remote sensing satellite research and demonstration key technologies. Form the core engineering capabilities of remote sensing satellite applications such as calibration, inspection, image processing and so on.

(1) to construct the scientific demonstration technology system of civil aerospace remote sensing in China.

(2) to establish a new application platform for satellite remote sensor.

(3) establish a first-class remote sensing information application engineering system in China.

(4) to establish China's independent satellite information product system, standards and norms to promote the development of the industry.
