Today, foreign media 9To5Mac said that a problem with iOS 16 could affect videos recorded in movie effect mode, making it impossible to open the video in iMovie and Final Cut Pro editing software.

According to reports on Apple support forums and Reddit, Apple's own video editors iMovie and Final Cut Pro cannot open movie effects mode videos recorded using iPhone running iOS 16. The cause of the error is not clear, but the report unanimously points out that when users try to edit movie effects mode videos, these apps will display an "unable to activate movie effects" error.

CTOnews.com learned that movie effect mode is a feature introduced by Apple in the iPhone 13 / Pro series, which allows iPhone 13 / Pro cameras to record shallow depth-of-field video and gently change focus, giving the video a cinematic texture.

After shooting a video in movie effect mode, users can edit the video in the "photos" App on iPhone or other supported devices. For videos shot in movie effect mode, in addition to standard editing operations suitable for all videos, users can also adjust the depth of field and focus of the video.

Apple has not officially responded to this issue, and the temporary solution is to edit movie videos on iPhone and then share them on Mac computers via AirDrop.
