According to news in the morning of September 27, Beijing time, Amazon will hold another promotion similar to Prime Day membership Day next month. This is the first time Amazon has held two such events in a year.

Amazon said on Monday that the next event would be held from October 11 to 12 and named it "Prime Early Access Sale" (members will be promoted on a first-come-first-served basis). Jamil Ghani, vice president of Amazon Prime, said in an interview that the event was only open to paying members of Amazon Prime and would offer "hundreds of thousands" of holiday discounts.

It was previously reported that Amazon had begun discussions with sellers about the event as early as June.

Prime Day membership Day begins in 2015 and is usually held every summer. However, due to the operational pressure on Amazon caused by the COVID-19 epidemic, Amazon adjusted its event time in 2020 and 2021. In addition, Amazon has tried other discount promotions, such as clothing promotions, pet-themed promotions, and autumn makeup events.

Ghani declined to say whether Amazon plans to hold several promotions for its members every year in the future.

Amazon's membership promotion in October also caters to the trend of holiday season sales in recent years. At present, large retailers will start promotions long before Black Friday and online Monday, in large part because more retail sales are shifting to e-commerce channels.

The new promotions may help Amazon kick-start the holiday season spending spree earlier. Amazon now faces a slowdown in ecommerce sales and a series of economic challenges, including a potential recession, a sharp rise in inflation, rising interest rates and excessive expansion during the epidemic.

Sales in this year's holiday season are expected to increase compared with last year, but much of the increase is driven by higher prices, according to a forecast by Bain, a consultancy. Because wallets are tight, shoppers are likely to look for discounts more than in previous years.
