CTOnews.com Sept. 27, Apple iOS 16.1 is currently in the Beta testing phase, which includes support for real-time active API. The API allows developers to add real-time notifications to the lock screen interface or Smart Island.

With the continuous testing of iOS 16.1, Apple has now released a complete guide to the design of real-time activities, which outlines the specifications for developers to add real-time activities to their App.

For Apple's iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, the new "smart island" design of the two new phones allows real-time activity to be displayed at the top of the screen. Other models can be displayed in the lock screen interface. Apple officially listed the following requirements:

Provides real-time activities for tasks and real-time events that have defined starts and ends.

Present only the most important content.

Update real-time activities only when new content is available, and alert users only when they must be noticed.

Avoid displaying sensitive information in real-time activities.

Avoid using real-time events to display advertisements or promotions.

Let the user control the start and end of real-time activities.

Make sure that the App opens in the correct location when you click on the real-time event.

Consider removing the real-time activity from the lock screen after the end of the lock screen.

Ensure uniform information and design for compact presentations in Smart Island.

Create a consistent layout between compact and extended presentations.

Consider using a consistent design in locked screens and extended presentations.

Adapt to different screen sizes and real-time activity demonstrations.

Think carefully before using a custom background color and opacity on the lock screen.

Coordinate the fillet radius of the content with the fillet radius of real-time activities.

Use standard margins to ensure that the content is clear and easy to read.

Select the color that suits the personalized lock screen.

Dark mode and constant highlight are supported.

Use animation carefully and only to draw attention to content updates.

CTOnews.com learned that Apple also listed three different designs to consider when creating real-time events for iPhone 14 Pro / Pro Max.

Real-time events for third-party App will be launched with the official version of iOS 16.1 this fall. This update is currently available in developers and public Beta tests.
