CTOnews.com Sept. 26, Netflix announced the establishment of a new game studio in Helsinki, Finland. This will work with Next Games, Night School Studio, and Boss Fight Entertainment to develop games for Netflix Games. What makes this new in-house studio unique, however, is that it starts from scratch, rather than a studio acquired by Netflix.

Netflix said Marko Lastikka would be the studio director. Over the past decade, he has worked for gaming giants EA and Zynga. His experience in executive roles at these companies will make him an ideal candidate to lead Netflix's new in-house game studio.

Netflix is still pursuing its gaming ambitions, which shows that Netflix is very serious about gaming. The company is scaling back its non-core activities as its finances get tougher and consumer spending declines. Games will become the core focus of Netflix streaming companies.

CTOnews.com has learned that Netflix is currently focused on mobile games, but in the past few years, the company has been turning to game streaming. Since its core business is streaming video, maybe we can also see Netflix expand into game streaming, competing with companies such as Google Stadia, Amazon Luna and Nvidia GeForce Now.
