CTOnews.com, September 26 (Xinhua)-- Airbus announced today that it has signed a sustainable aviation fuel procurement agreement with China Aviation Oil Corporation for Airbus delivery flights in Tianjin.

Airbus said that the purchase of sustainable aviation fuel will be produced by Sinopec Zhenhai Refinery using waste catering oil as raw materials and is scheduled to be put into use by the end of this year. This will be the first time that Airbus has used sustainable aviation fuel in China. At the same time, Airbus Tianjin also plans to provide all customers who come to receive aircraft with the option of using sustainable aviation fuel during delivery.

According to reports, sustainable aviation fuel is an alternative fuel produced in a sustainable way, using waste animal and vegetable oils, oils, municipal solid waste and agricultural and forestry wastes as raw materials. Compared with traditional fossil fuels, sustainable aviation fuels generate up to 85% less carbon emissions from raw material collection to end-user use.

CTOnews.com has learned that Airbus says all Airbus aircraft have been certified to fly using sustainable aviation fuel mixed with aviation kerosene up to 50 per cent. Airbus plans to achieve 100% sustainable aviation fuel flight certification by 2030.
