CTOnews.com Sept. 26, today, Canalys released a report that shipments of desktops, laptops and workstations in Latin America fell 6 per cent to 5 million units in the second quarter of 2022 compared with the same period last year.

The report points out that after experiencing the impact of the epidemic, desktop shipments have now stabilized to 840000 units, making it the best performing category in the region. Notebook shipments fell 7 per cent to 4.2 million units. High inflation has put Latin America in a difficult position, with consumer spending falling sharply and tablet shipments down 30 per cent to 1.4 million.

CTOnews.com learned that Canalys said Lenovo was the number one desktop and laptop market in Latin America. The manufacturer's shipments fell 12%, mainly due to a decline in consumer demand. HP suffered a similar dilemma, with shipments falling 15 per cent to 1 million units. Relying on its advantage in the commercial market, Dell ranked third with a 7% increase in shipments, making it the only major manufacturer to achieve growth. Acer and Asustek fell 9 per cent and 8 per cent respectively, making them among the top five.

In terms of tablets, Lenovo topped the list with 438000 tablets shipped in Latin America, a slight increase of 2%. Shipments of Samsung, in second place, and apple, in third place, fell slightly by 2% and 1%, respectively. Multilaser had a tough second quarter, falling 17% to fourth place. Despite a 81% drop in shipments, TCL still ranks fifth.
