The Chromebook version is now available for pre-order in the United States and Canada, starting at $999 (about 7132.86 yuan), with the first shipment in early December. Framework uses a bulk booking system, which costs only $100 at the time of booking, with a full refund of the deposit. All replacement parts and modules that make up the Framework Chromebook version also appear in the list.

The Chromebook version features a Framework laptop design, including a high-resolution (2256x1504) 3:2 display, a comfortable 1.5mm keypad and a precision molded and milled aluminum case, while maintaining 15.85mm thickness and 1.3kg ultra-portability. Powered by the latest generation 12 Intel Core i5-1240P processors with 4x8 CPU cores and 30W continuous performance, users can easily perform multitasking while running heavy Chrome workloads. ChromeOS supports downloading Android applications from the Google Play store, developing on Linux using Crostini, playing PC games using Steam on ChromeOS Alpha, and so on.

The Chromebook version is equipped with an expansion card system that allows users to choose the ports they need and which side to put them on, including support for USB-C, USB-A, MicroSD, HDMI, DisplayPort, Ethernet, high-speed storage, and so on.

Memory and storage are socketed and can be loaded at any time. Pre-configuration includes 8GB DDR4 memory and 256GB NVMe storage, which can be upgraded to up to 64GB DDR4 memory and 1TB NVMe storage. Users can also use 250GB and 1TB storage expansion cards to expand space.

The magnetic connection board adjusts the appearance of the laptop. All Framework borders are compatible with the Chromebook version.

CTOnews.com learned that the Chromebook version has built-in hardware to control its privacy. The hardware privacy switch turns off the power to the camera and microphone and disables any access.

Each part of the system has a scannable QR code that provides unprecedented access to documentation, maintenance guides, replacement and upgrade parts, and in-depth understanding of design and manufacturing data. Using open source embedded controller firmware and coreboot BIOS, the underlying system software is also open.
