CTOnews.com, September 25 (Xinhua) according to CCTV news, data released by the China Banking Association recently showed that a total of 9.25 billion bank cards were issued in China by the end of 2021, with 270 million new cards issued in 2021, an increase of 3.0% over the same period last year.

According to the Blue Book on the Development of Bank of China Card Industry (2022) issued by the China Banking Association, China's economy has continued to recover and operate smoothly in 2021, achieving an economic growth rate of 8.1%, and the consumption level of residents has rebounded somewhat. The bank card industry has generally improved, the per capita card holding capacity has maintained growth, the transaction scale has rebounded significantly, the overall risk of the bank card industry has eased, and the fraud rate of bank cards has continued to decline. The scale of the overseas acceptance network continues to expand.

CTOnews.com learned that according to the data disclosed by the people's Bank of China, a total of 9.319 billion bank cards had been opened nationwide by the end of the first quarter, an increase of 0.78% over the previous month. Of this total, there were 8.517 billion debit cards, an increase of 0.83 percent over the previous month; and 802 million credit and credit cards, an increase of 0.28 percent over the previous month. The average person holds 6.60 bank cards, of which 0.57 are credit cards and credit cards.

In addition, in the first quarter, banks handled 63.262 billion electronic payment transactions with a total amount of 739.77 trillion yuan, up 3.68% and 4.18% respectively over the same period last year. Of these, 23.57 billion online payments were worth 585.16 trillion yuan, up 4.60 percent and 5.72 percent respectively over the same period last year; 34.653 billion mobile payments were worth 131.58 trillion yuan, up 6.24 percent and 1.11 percent respectively; and telephone payments were 0.66 million, up 1.16 percent and 2.67 trillion yuan, down 11.93 percent from the same period last year. In the first quarter, non-bank payment institutions handled 231.328 billion online payment transactions, an increase of 4.85 percent over the same period last year, with an amount of 84.41 trillion yuan, down 2.38 percent from the same period last year.
