Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, September 25 (Xinhua)-- the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) have released a global report on renewable energy employment, revealing which countries and regions lead the world in wind and solar energy manufacturing and installation.
Renewable Energy and Employment: annual Review 2022 shows that the number of people working in the field of renewable energy continues to grow. Despite the COVID-19 epidemic and the growing energy crisis, 700000 new renewable energy jobs were created in 2021, bringing global renewable energy employment to 12.7 million, with China accounting for 42% of the global total. followed by the European Union and Brazil each accounted for 10%, the United States and India accounted for 7% respectively.
The report's authors point out that the COVID-19 epidemic has directly promoted employment opportunities in various countries: "in the context of additional supply chain disruptions, trade disputes and geopolitical competition, growing concerns are increasing interest in supply chain localization to enhance resilience, domestic value and job creation."
According to the report, the number of renewable energy jobs worldwide is expected to increase to 38.2 million by 2030, CTOnews.com has learned. Solar energy accounts for more than 1/3 of the total renewable energy workforce and is the fastest growing renewable energy industry.
China is a leading manufacturer and installer of solar photovoltaic panels, and the number of offshore wind power jobs is growing. Southeast Asian countries are also becoming major solar photovoltaic manufacturing centers and biofuel producers.
India has added more solar photovoltaic power than 10GW, creating a lot of installation work, but the country still relies heavily on imported solar panels.
European countries, which now account for about 40% of the world's wind energy production, are the most important exporters of wind power equipment. Europe is also trying to restructure its solar photovoltaic manufacturing industry.
Mexico is the leading supplier of wind turbine blades in the Western Hemisphere. Brazil remains a major employer of biofuels and has added many jobs in wind and solar installations. The United States is beginning to establish a domestic industrial base for its burgeoning offshore wind power industry.
The current role of African countries is still limited, but the report notes that there are increasing employment opportunities for decentralized renewable energy, particularly in supporting local business, agriculture and other economic activities.
