The current DisplayPort 1.4 standard can support 8K displays with 60Hz refresh rate. Moreover, consumer game displays will not provide support for DisplayPort 2.0 for a considerable period of time.

CTOnews.com has reported that the DisplayPort 2.0 video transmission standard was released in 2019 and had planned to release its first product at the end of 2020, but it has not been implemented so far. According to the Video Electronic Standards Association (VESA), the standard's issuing body, the delay was mainly due to the popularity of novel coronavirus, which prevented discussions and experiments by the association's engineers and developers.

In 2022, Intel announced that its sharp graphics card will adopt a new display engine, which will implement DP 2.0 Ready and support dual 8k60 frame HDR output. AMD also announced at a recent press conference that the new X670 motherboard will be equipped with a DP 2.0 interface.
