According to foreign media reports, Samsung display and LG show that the 8.7G substrate is being considered, and the two companies are carrying out research and development.

Compared with the 8.5Gen commonly used in the 8th generation of substrates of the two companies, the size of Gen 8.7is larger, and a single substrate can cut out more OLED panels needed for IT equipment, saving time and cost, and less waste glass, thus improving production efficiency.

Specifically, the size of the 8.7th generation substrate is 2290x2620mm, which is replaced by 2200x2500mm, and nearly 10cm is added both vertically and horizontally.

Although the use of 8.7G substrate can improve production efficiency, it may require the use of new equipment. Due to the increase in size, Samsung display and LG display will not be able to use the equipment on the 8.5G LCD production line. According to sources, the two companies have considered reusing these devices through the 8.5G OLED panel production line.

It is worth noting that foreign media reported that the domestic panel manufacturer BOE may also use 8.7G substrates to produce OLED panels. They have 8.7G LCD panel production lines. If they plan to have 8.7G OLED panel production lines, related equipment can be used.
