CTOnews.com, September 23, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on the 22nd that Tesla will recall nearly 1.1 million vehicles in the United States because the window lifting systems of some models may not respond correctly when obstacles are detected and may clip people's fingers. The models to be recalled by Tesla include the Model 3 from 2017 to 2022, the Model Y from 2020 to 2021 and the Model S and Model X from 2021 to 2022.

In response, Tesla CEO Elon-Musk said it was only a small OTA update, while NHTSA called the OTA update recall as "outdated and inaccurate". Musk also said that as far as they know, no injuries caused by the above-mentioned window problems occurred.

Musk believes that the term "recall" needs to be updated because glitches like the above window glitches can be remedied by downloading fixes and there is no need to drive the car to a repair shop.

Musk's statement seems to have some truth, because when it comes to the "recall", most people think that the problem needs to be solved by replacing the hardware, or the car needs to be driven to a repair shop for repair.

However, CTOnews.com learned that NHTSA had previously said it had asked automakers to initiate recalls for all repairs, including software updates. According to the agency's description, software updates still fall within the definition of "recall".
