Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen grass Luo Yuzi for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, September 23, according to the Xinjiang Daily, the foundation work of China's 110m caliber omni-directional mobile radio telescope project began on September 21 in Qitai County, Xinjiang. The project is a major scientific and technological infrastructure in the field of astronomy in China, and when completed, it will build a world-class observation platform for frontier fields such as gravitational waves, rapid radio storms, black holes, dark matter, celestial bodies and the origin of life.
CTOnews.com learned that the radio telescope, also known as the Qitai Radio Telescope (QiTai radio Telescope, or QTT), was officially established in 2015 and will take six years to build. QTT is a major technological infrastructure comparable to the "Chinese Sky Eye" FAST. The omni-directional mobility allows QTT to observe 3/4 of the sky with extremely high sensitivity, covering the center of the Milky way and 12 degrees south of the sky, which is of great concern to the astronomical community.
At present, the antenna diameter of the largest omni-directional movable radio telescope in the world is 100 meters. In Germany and the United States, 100-meter omni-directional mobile radio telescopes have not been built in China. Therefore, it is estimated that after six years of completion, the QTT with an aperture of 110m will become the largest and most accurate 100-meter omni-directional mobile radio telescope in the world, and build a world-class observation platform for exploring frontier fields such as Nahertz gravitational waves, fast radio storms, black holes, dark matter, and the origin of life in the universe.
According to Chang Jin, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and director of the National Astronomical Observatory, QTT is located in the hinterland of Eurasia, and the network observation can connect Europe, the Eastern Union inland and East Asia networks, which will greatly improve the overall sensitivity, improve the important layout of China's deep space exploration, and provide strong technical support for future more distant space activities, such as lunar exploration, Mars and asteroid exploration, and even more distant solar system marginal exploration. It has become an important supporting platform for space exploration.
