According to news in the morning of September 23, Beijing time, Qualcomm said on Thursday local time that its auto business's "revenue reserves" had increased to $30 billion, up more than $10 billion from the third-quarter results announced at the end of July.

Qualcomm said on Automotive Investor Day this week that the big improvement in future performance was mainly due to automakers and their suppliers choosing "Snapdragon Digital chassis" products. Snapdragon digital chassis provides assisted driving and self-driving technology, as well as in-vehicle infotainment services and vehicle networking services.

With the development of electric vehicles and self-driving functions, the number of chips used by automobile manufacturers is growing rapidly, and the automobile market has become a key growth area for chip manufacturers. Akkash Parchiwala, Qualcomm's chief financial officer, said: "in terms of average revenue per car, our opportunities range from about $200 to $3000. Looking ahead, the composition of the business will tilt towards the high end of the market, so opportunities will continue to expand."

Qualcomm said the target car market could reach $100 billion by 2030.

The company estimates that revenue from its auto business will increase to about $1.3 billion in fiscal 2022 from $975 million in the previous fiscal year. This figure will exceed $4 billion by fiscal year 2026 and further rise to more than $9 billion by fiscal year 2031.

Qualcomm also announced the expansion of its partnership with Mercedes-Benz Group. The latter will use the "Snapdragon cockpit" product in the in-vehicle infotainment system from 2023.

Qualcomm also has many automotive customers in the Chinese market. Cristiano Amon, chief executive of Qualcomm, said: "the strong win-win partnership between US and Chinese companies is always a stable force."

Earlier this week, Nvidia also released a new car central computing system, which provides self-driving and assisted driving technology, as well as in-car digital entertainment and other services.
