CTOnews.com Sept. 22, Apple's iPhone 14 Pro / Max AOD display doesn't work like most Android phones' regular display mode, which consists mainly of black pixels and a clock that is always visible. It works more like Apple Watch,AOD mode almost the same as a standard lock screen-the same colored wallpaper and informative widgets, but dimmed.

Many users who got the new iPhone were surprised by this. In fact, some of the initial comments suggested disabling the AOD display altogether because it was too distracting. However, it turns out that there is another hidden way to try black-and-white AOD display on iPhone.

The trick to getting a black-and-white AOD display now is to use a long-standing focus mode setting called "lock screen dimming". This has the effect of completely darkening iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max in AOD mode.

How to enable black and white AOD lock screen to enable this feature, navigate to Settings-> focus Mode-> [Select focus Mode]-> options-> enable dimming of the lock screen. Now, when the focus mode is activated, the lock screen dimming setting will take effect. When the user's iPhone 14 Pro enters AOD display mode, the entire lock screen will be converted to simple black and white mode.

CTOnews.com learned that in this mode, the AOD display displays the date and time in white font (and any widgets you choose). That's all. Any custom lock screen wallpaper or photos will be completely dimmed.

However, there are some disadvantages to enabling this setting. For beginners, it only works in focus mode-if you want to permanently display black and white AOD, you need to be in focus mode all day. The focus mode status tab also appears at the bottom of the lock screen.

More importantly, enabling the dim lock screen will also change your lock screen when the iPhone is awake. It obscures the wallpaper. After all, the expected goal of this focus mode-related feature is to darken the phone's lock screen and make iPhone less distracting when focusing on other things.
