Baihetan Hydropower Station is located in the lower reaches of the Jinsha River at the junction of Ningnan County, Sichuan Province and Qiaojia County, Yunnan Province. it is the largest and most technically difficult hydropower project under construction in the world. A total of 16 hydroelectric generating units with the largest unit capacity of one million kilowatts in the world and independently developed in China have been installed, with a total installed capacity of 1600 million kilowatts.

A total of 16 hydroelectric generating units with a capacity of 1 million kilowatts have been installed in Baihetan Hydropower Station, of which units 1 to 8 are located in the left bank powerhouse and units 9 to 16 are arranged in the right bank powerhouse. The No. 8 unit that has been put into operation this time is the 12th million kilowatt hydrogenerator set that Baihetan Hydropower Station has put into operation.

CTOnews.com learned that the three Gorges Group said that when the Baihetan Hydropower Station is fully completed and put into operation, it will become the second largest hydropower station in the world after the three Gorges Power Station, with an average annual generating capacity of 62.443 billion kilowatt hours, which can meet the electricity needs of about 75 million people a year, and can replace about 19.68 million tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 52 million tons.

In addition, after the Baihetan Hydropower Station is fully put into operation, the three Gorges Group will complete and put into operation 110 hydropower units in the mainstream of the Yangtze River, with a total installed capacity of 71.695 million kilowatts. It also forms the world's largest clean energy corridor with six hydropower stations in Wudong Germany, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, three Gorges and Gezhouba.
