Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, Sept. 22-Ford's official blog says the company is working with Commsignia, PSS, Ohio State University, T-Mobile and Tome Software on a reasonably priced and scalable smartphone-based communication technology that could one day help drivers find pedestrians in blind spots.
According to reports, the technology is to run detection App on the mobile phones of pedestrians and cyclists and use low-power Bluetooth (BLE) messages to convey their locations to Ford. If the vehicle calculates the potential collision risk, Ford SYNC can display graphics such as pedestrians on the on-board screen and sound an alarm to warn the driver.
This week, Ford, Commsignia, PSS, Ohio State University, T-Mobile and Tome Software will demonstrate the technology at the American Intelligent Transportation Association World Congress in Los Angeles.
Jim Buczkowski, Ford's senior executive director of research and research, says they are exploring ways to expand vehicle sensing to areas that drivers cannot see to help pedestrians and cyclists travel more safely on the road.
Data from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration estimate that the number of traffic deaths in 2021 increased by 13% from the previous year to 7342, while the number of traffic deaths among cyclists increased by 5% to 1000 over the same period.
CTOnews.com learned that Ford said BLE connection technology uses radio waves in the 2.4 GHz band to create wireless personal local area networks and communicate with other devices with similar equipment. This technology is already widely used in smartphones and is compatible with SYNC networked vehicle technology without any hardware changes to the vehicle.
BLE can complement other technologies by communicating with other similar devices with sufficient alarm range, and it is possible to improve safety through awareness of pedestrians, cyclists, etc. BLE also does not rely on line-of-sight detection such as cameras or radar, which means pedestrians and others can be detected when hiding behind obstacles such as buildings.
In addition, the energy consumption of BLE technology is very low, and Ford's conceptual technology uses BLE as a beacon, which can sense multiple other similar equipment in the range without pairing.
