Beijing, September 22 (Xinhua) Samsung Electronics Vice President Lee Jae-yong reappeared in the public eye after being pardoned on August Moon Restoration Day, after a half-month overseas business trip on September 21, local time. He responded at South Korea's Kimpo Airport whether he would take over the group chairman this year, saying that the development of the company was more important.

Lee Jae-yong brushed his sense of presence after he was released from prison and visited Samsung's fulcrum at home and abroad one after another. During his overseas trip, he went to South America and the United Kingdom, where he intended to canvass votes for the bid to host the 2030 Busan World Expo in addition to work negotiations. Mr Lee's recent performance has led to speculation that he may take over as chairman of Samsung this year.

Mr Lee also said he had not met with British chip designer ARM, but revealed that "Softbank Corp. chairman Masayoshi son may visit Seoul (South Korea) next month" on Samsung's proposed acquisition of ARM, and it was unclear what proposal would be put forward.

Lee Jae-yong, 54, was promoted to vice president of Samsung 10 years ago. In 2021, the Seoul High Court in South Korea found that Lee Jae-yong bribed an aide to former President Park Geun-hye to gain government support for the merger of two subsidiaries of Samsung Group and sentenced him to two years and six months in prison.

Lee Jae-yong was released on parole on August 13 this year. He was allowed to return to work fully and the employment restrictions faced during parole were lifted. South Korea's Ministry of Justice stated that Lee Jae-yong and others were pardoned for the sake of the country's economy. South Korea wants them to "lead the country's sustained economic growth through active technology investment and job creation."
