From January to August, telecom business revenue totaled 1.0721 trillion yuan, an increase of 8.2% over the same period last year. The total volume of telecommunications services calculated at the same price last year increased by 21.7% over the same period last year.

Data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology show that mobile Internet traffic is growing rapidly. From January to August, cumulative mobile Internet traffic reached 168.4 billion GB, an increase of 18.6% over the same period last year.

CTOnews.com learned that by the end of August, the number of mobile Internet users had reached 1.459 billion, a net increase of 43.37 million over the end of last year. In August, the average mobile Internet access traffic (DOU) per household reached 15.2GB / household month, an increase of 10.7% over the same period last year, which was higher than 0.48GB / household month at the end of last year.

In terms of mobile phone users, the scale of mobile phone users has increased steadily, with 5G users accounting for nearly 30%. By the end of August, the total number of mobile phone users of the three basic telecommunications enterprises had reached 1.678 billion, a net increase of 34.68 million over the end of last year. Of these, 5G mobile phone users reached 492 million, a net increase of 138 million over the end of last year, accounting for 29.4 percent of mobile phone users and an increase of 7.8 percentage points over the end of last year.

The following is the economic performance of the communications industry from January to August 2022 released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology:

From January to August, the overall operation of the communications industry was stable. The revenue of telecommunications business has increased steadily, and the total volume of telecommunications business has maintained relatively rapid growth; new progress has been made in the construction and application of new infrastructure such as 5G, gigabit optical network and Internet of things, and the scale of mobile network "things" connection exceeds that of "human" connection; emerging businesses such as cloud computing are growing rapidly, and the new momentum for industry development is constantly increasing.

I. overall operation the revenue of telecommunications services has increased steadily, and the total volume of telecommunications services has maintained double-digit growth. From January to August, telecom business revenue totaled 1.0721 trillion yuan, an increase of 8.2% over the same period last year. Revenue from fixed Internet broadband services maintained steady growth. From January to August, the revenue from Internet broadband services completed by the three basic telecommunications enterprises was 161.8 billion yuan, an increase of 9.8 percent over the same period last year, accounting for 15.1 percent of the telecom business revenue, up 0.2 percent from the same period last year, and driving the growth of telecom business revenue by 1.5 percentage points.

The revenue of mobile data traffic business is growing at a low speed. From January to August, the three basic telecom companies completed 439 billion yuan in mobile data traffic business revenue, an increase of 0.5% over the same period last year, accounting for 41% of telecom business revenue, driving an increase of 0.2% in telecom business revenue.

Revenue from emerging businesses is growing rapidly. The three basic telecommunications companies actively developed emerging businesses such as IPTV, Internet data center, big data, cloud computing, and the Internet of things. From January to August, they completed a total of 207.5 billion yuan in emerging business revenue, an increase of 34.1% over the same period last year, accounting for 19.4% of telecom business revenue, driving an increase of 5.3% in telecom business revenue. Among them, the revenue of cloud computing and big data grew by 130.3% and 56.4% respectively, the data center business revenue increased by 15.5%, and the Internet of things business revenue increased by 24.5%.

Voice business revenue continues to decline. From January to August, the income of the three basic telecommunications companies from completing fixed voice and mobile voice services totaled 13.9 billion yuan and 76.62 billion yuan, down 10.2% and 3.7% respectively from the same period last year. Together, they accounted for 8.4% of the telecom business revenue, accounting for 1.2 percentage points lower than the same period last year.

Second, the development of telecommunications users the scale of fixed broadband access users has increased steadily, and the number of gigabit users has continued to expand. By the end of August, the total number of fixed Internet broadband access users of the three basic telecommunications enterprises had reached 571 million, a net increase of 35.23 million over the end of last year. Among them, the number of fixed Internet broadband access users with 100Mbps and above access rates reached 536 million, accounting for 93.8 percent of the total users, an increase of 0.8 percentage points over the end of last year; and the number of fixed Internet broadband access users with 1000Mbps access rates reached 70.55 million, a net increase of 35.96 million over the end of last year, accounting for 12.4 percent of the total users.

The number of mobile phone users is steadily increasing, with 5G users accounting for nearly 30%. The number of cellular IoT terminal users representing "things" connections in mobile network connection terminals exceeded the number of mobile phone users representing "human" connections for the first time, accounting for 50.3%. The total number of IPTV (Internet TV) users reached 370 million, a net increase of 21.9 million over the end of last year.

Third, the use of telecommunications services mobile Internet traffic is growing rapidly. The volume of mobile phone calls grew at a low speed, and the growth rate of mobile short message service revenue increased slightly. From January to August, mobile phone outbound calls completed 1.52 trillion minutes, an increase of 1.4% over the same period last year, while fixed-line caller calls completed 55.74 billion minutes, down 11.1% from the same period last year. From January to August, the national mobile short message business increased by 1.7% compared with the same period last year, and the mobile short message service revenue increased by 1.5% over the same period last year, down 0.4% and 0.7% respectively from January to July.

Fourth, the communication capacity continues to improve the coverage and service capacity of gigabit optical fiber broadband network. By the end of August, the number of Internet broadband access ports nationwide had reached 1.049 billion, a net increase of 31.45 million over the end of last year. Among them, the number of optical fiber access (FTTH / O) ports reached 1 billion, a net increase of 41.62 million over the end of last year, accounting for 95.5 percent of the total, up from 94.3 percent at the end of last year. As of the end of August, the number of 10G PON ports with gigabit network service capacity reached 12.14 million, a net increase of 4.282 million over the end of last year.

The construction of 5G network has been accelerated. By the end of August, the total number of 5G base stations had reached 2.102 million, accounting for 19.8% of the total number of mobile base stations, accounting for 5.5 percentage points higher than at the end of last year. Among them, 677000 5G base stations were built from January to August.

Regional development the penetration rate of access users of 100 megabytes and above in the central region is slightly ahead, while the penetration rate of gigabit users in the eastern region is developing rapidly. By the end of August, the penetration rates of 100Mbps and above fixed broadband access users in the eastern, central, western and northeast regions were 93.6%, 94.8%, 93.3% and 93.8%, respectively. The number of broadband access users with 1000Mbps and above access rates reached 36.65 million, 14.651 million, 17.55 million and 1.69 million respectively, accounting for 15.1%, 10.3%, 11.6% and 5% of the total number of fixed broadband access users in the region, respectively.

The eastern region takes the lead in 5G construction and users. By the end of August, the number of 5G base stations in the eastern, central, western and northeast regions reached 1.017 million, 444000, 511000 and 130000 respectively, accounting for 22.1%, 19.2%, 17.2% and 188.5% of the total number of mobile phone base stations in the region, respectively. The number of 5G mobile phone users reached 218.97 million, 114.61 million, 126.76 million and 32.08 million respectively, accounting for 30.1%, 29.6%, 28.6% and 27% of the total mobile phone users in the region, respectively.

The growth rate of mobile Internet access traffic in the central region is the leading, and the DOU value of some western provinces is among the highest in the country. From January to August, mobile Internet access traffic in the eastern, central, western and northeast regions reached 71.61 billion GB, 38.03 billion GB, 50.1 billion GB and 8.7 billion GB, respectively, an increase of 18.5%, 20%, 19% and 12.4% over the same period last year. In August, the average mobile Internet access traffic (DOU) of Xizang, Qinghai, Xinjiang, Hainan and Yunnan provinces exceeded 20GB / household month, and the difference between the highest and lowest DOU values of each province was 19.9GB / household month, which was larger than that of the same period last year.
