Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com September 21, 2016-A YouTube blogger ran a full crash test of the iPhone 14 / Pro series crash detection feature and found that Apple's new emergency SOS feature reliably activates in the event of a controlled vehicle crash.
TechRax released a video today that shows his team remotely controlling a driverless car fitted with an iPhone 14 Pro strapped to the headrest of the driver's seat before they try to crash it into a stationary vehicle.
After experiencing a series of dangerous situations and adding several battered road vehicles to form a wall to make it easier to hit the target, the RC car successfully crashed at a low speed, which can be described as a typical fender bender crash.
After a seemingly brief delay, the iPhone 14 Pro's crash detection feature automatically activates and the phone starts an emergency SOS countdown, which is manually cancelled by the team before emergency services can be called.
On the second successful attempt, the car crashed into the wall at a higher speed, its hood becoming accordion shaped on impact. Similarly, Apple's crash detection feature was reliably activated and then manually deactivated again by the team.
Below is the video:
While TechRax's test results don't necessarily prove that the feature is as reliable in a serious crash that is uncontrolled in the real world, the fact that it does activate as expected should give confidence to iPhone 14 series users who keep the feature enabled.
CTOnews.com has learned that to activate crash detection, the iPhone 14 Series motion sensors feature a high dynamic range gyroscope and high-g accelerometer, GPS, barometer, microphone and advanced motion algorithms that must work together to accurately detect collisions.
By default, all Apple iPhone 14 series models, Apple Watch SE 2, Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch Ultra support crash detection.
