Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

Actively or passively, many young people are looking for a career change.

A programmer posted on Douban Group: "the hourly salary is very low, the study pressure is also great, and a batch of old knowledge is eliminated in three years. I work a lot of overtime. I can only maintain my existing competitiveness by studying for two or three hours after work. In fact, I have to learn if I don't improve my ability. I don't dare to ask other people for entertainment and leisure except to ask my colleagues out for dinner after work. I feel very autistic. Can I talk about uu who escaped the Internet and it?"

On social platforms such as Little Red Book and Douban, many people began to share their thoughts and experiences about changing careers. According to the big data report on the Employment trend of Middle-and High-end talents in 2022Q1, 55.87% of workers have job-hopping plans in the first quarter of this year. Among them, 65.34% of workers choose to change jobs across industries.

We wonder: what industry do people who talk about changing careers on social platforms come from? Why did you change careers? Where is it transferred to?

What are we talking about about "changing careers"? There are nearly 13000 notes related to "career change" in Xiaohongshu in one year, and the related popular occupations are testing, training, new media, product manager and so on.

Salary and age are key words that are often associated with "changing careers". The nature of companies within the system, state-owned enterprises, foreign enterprises and large factories also appear in many career change notes and are regarded as a very important part of the "career change".

Testing, analysis, development, and product manager positions, which are common in the Internet industry, are all popular jobs.

There is no lack of "after thinking about it for a long time, do I want to change the test or not?" Wait for help notes. In addition, many training institutions add fuel to the flames, emphasizing that the "software testing" threshold is low and the salary is high, which attracts more people to pay for classes.

But at the same time, there are also many people who have stepped forward to persuade them to quit: "families who have switched to software testing should be cautious."those who recruit junior college computer majors, do not switch to software testing."all the tests I know have changed professions."

Not surprisingly, a large number of people are fleeing the education and construction industry. The double reduction of the blow and the construction of the bottom of real estate have put many people on the road of changing careers.

At the same time, some industries represented by new media are relatively more mobile, and the number of transfer notes is about the same as that of leaving.

What are the hot industries and jobs that are transferred in and out? Douban has a "career-changing mutual aid" and "successful career-changing happily group" (hereinafter referred to as the "career-changing group"), with nearly 30,000 members posting daily posts asking for advice on changing careers and sharing their experiences. We counted 1132 posts in the group:

Every industry is like a besieged city, people inside want to get out, people outside want to go in. The data show that seven industries are duplicated in TOP10 transfer and transfer, namely, education / training, e-commerce, Internet, media / new media, health care, manufacturing and finance.

Most of these industries have a glamorous appearance, but the actual pain is understood only by people in the industry. Take the Internet as an example. in the eyes of outsiders, the Internet represents a high salary. If you enter an Internet company, especially the head Internet company, buying a house in the urban area within a few years is not a dream, but experts often face the pain and pressure brought about by 996. Similarly, there are finance, health care and other industries. Maybe there is no clear answer to whether the industry is good or bad, but there are always many people who regret their choice.

In addition to the industries where people lose their hair in front of people, there are also some industries that have low barriers to entry, but are very introverted and have a lot of staff mobility, such as new media and e-commerce. Brush short video, whether you can often see "a mobile phone can earn more than 10,000 a month" new media job ads, "you can open an online store without supply" e-commerce ads. No matter whether this model is really feasible or not, but as more and more people join the industry, are these industries really "easy to make money"? On the one hand, many people are attracted by advertisements, and on the other side, many people who are already in the profession shout "fooled".

In addition to the seven "besieged industries", there are three "pure transfer" industries, namely, construction / real estate, advertising and banking. Each of these three industries has its own sufferings. The barriers to entry are not low, but the work is extremely hard, and the income of basic jobs is not as good as that of many emerging industries. For example, architecture and real estate think that they can become young architects before graduation, but they can only be "squeezed" by developers after graduation.

In the "pure transfer" industry, most of them have the characteristics of large development space and strong sustainability, such as games, foreign trade, new energy and so on. The game is changing from a kind of entertainment to a kind of social way, which is accepted by more people. Foreign trade and new energy industries, in response to the national policy of Belt and Road Initiative and carbon neutrality, have broad prospects. Salaries in these industries are also relatively higher.

When people talk about "changing careers", they often have two meanings: some people "change industries", but others "change jobs". The change in the industry is sometimes not as great as that brought about by the change of position. Of course, when many people change careers, they not only change industries, but also change positions.

We also count the positions that we want to transfer out and into in the "career change group".

The characteristics of the positions on both the popular transfer list and the hot transfer list are similar to the industries mentioned above. Such as design, program development positions, bright front, while facing a lot of work pressure. There are also some low entry barriers, resulting in very internal positions, such as marketing / sales, human resources, operations, copywriting editors, etc.

In addition, from the point of view of the positions that people want to turn into, those who are in the tuyere of the industry and have a technical threshold are more desirable by everyone. For example, product manager and data analysis are two "pure transfer" positions.

Among the posts of "pure transfer", the posts of "teachers" and "financial accountants" with the largest number of people fleeing were precisely the careers that many parents liked to persuade their children (especially women) to choose. In general, education has suffered a "double reduction" in the past two years, and many people find that they are not suitable at all: "although they are girls, they don't like children at all!" Kindergarten teachers who are changing careers sum up this. When many accountants joined the profession, they did not expect that the job would be so "boring" and "repetitive", and the salary was not attractive at all.

Why did you change careers? Based on the analysis of the TOP20 keywords related to the reasons for changing careers in the "career change group", we can simply classify the reasons for changing careers into six categories: career prospects, professional position counterparts, wages and benefits, ideal love, work experience and social influence.

First of all, career prospects are the most important thing when you change careers. After all, your career is very long. As long as you choose the right industry and company, there are unlimited possibilities in the future. According to a survey conducted by the Pulse data Research Institute, 63.3% of workers said they faced a problem with the career ceiling.

In addition, salary is also a priority for everyone. Most of the workers are to support their families. "salary / salary", "treatment" and "five insurances" all appear in TOP20 keywords. If a girl with a construction cost position writes that she wants to change her career because she wants to work too hard and has too little money: "there is too much difference between men and women. Girls earn 4k a month at the construction site, while boys swim at Party A's off-work table for 1w, and staying up all night is really fatal. It's really fatal to stay up all night. My female classmates in the same major often hang out all night."

Work experience is also important: most workers tend to refuse "overtime" to protect their "health". Due to the many uncertainties brought about by the three-year epidemic, more people are reluctant to risk their career choices, and "stability" has become a high-frequency word in the discussion of career change. 51 job's "Job-hopping Survey report of 2021 Workplace people (the first three quarters)" shows that job stability has become the primary factor in job-hopping.

In addition to the hard conditions such as prospects, treatment and experience, there are also some people who change careers because of ideal love and change for the satisfaction of their parents. Under the impact of economic and family pressure, the process of changing careers is not easy. Therefore, people always have some negative emotions when they decide to change careers.

We counted the negative emotion keyword TOP10 in the "career change group" posts. It can be found that more people feel "confused" and "anxious" than simply dislike the job ("hate", "boring"):

"is there really a future for this job?"

In addition, work is "stressful" and "very difficult / too difficult" is also how people feel when they want to change careers. Many people decide to change careers out of self-doubt and regret their original career choices.

For example, there is a HR who wants to give up his personnel job because he "prefers to deal with data words and doesn't like beeping with people every day". A new media copywriter who wants to switch to medical beauty confesses that he is "so tired of new media that he is always brainstorming and creative."

Some of these negative emotions come from the difficulty of the career change itself, but it is also largely the driving force behind people's determination to change careers: if it is already so bad, then any change is likely to be a good change.
