September 21, according to foreign media reports, iRobot, a US manufacturer of sweeping robots, said in a document submitted to regulators on Tuesday local time that the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) asked Amazon and iRobot on Monday local time to provide more information about Amazon's acquisition of iRobot.

Foreign media said FTC asked for more information about the deal, indicating that the deal is under close scrutiny by FTC. Both Amazon and iRobot said they would cooperate with FTC's review, delaying the completion of the deal.

It is reported that Amazon announced in early August that it would buy iRobot for $1.7 billion in cash. Shortly after the deal was announced, groups calling for stricter antitrust regulations called on FTC to block the deal, saying it further strengthened Amazon's dominant position in the smart home market.

In early September, people familiar with the matter said that FTC had begun reviewing Amazon's acquisition of iRobot to determine whether the deal violated antitrust law.

Now, foreign media reports confirm that FTC is indeed investigating the deal. The investigation highlights how FTC officials are closely reviewing Amazon's merger and acquisition activity after consumer activists called for blocking Amazon's acquisition of iRobot.

The review of Amazon's acquisition of iRobot comes as FTC is pushing ahead with its review of another deal, Amazon's $3.9 billion acquisition of primary care provider One Medical, which could delay completion.

"Amazon will buy Roomba robot company iRobot for about $1.7 billion in cash."
