Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen Orange Baba for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com September 21 news, repair site iFixit today shared a deep disassembly video of the iPhone 14 Pro Max, providing a detailed introduction to the inside of the machine. Notably, the teardown shows Apple replacing the SIM tray on the U.S. model with a plastic gasket.

iPhone 14 Pro Max SIM Card Plastic Gasket

All four iPhone 14 models sold in the U.S. no longer have a physical SIM card tray, and are moving entirely to eSIM. The disassembly confirmed that Apple did not use the space vacated by removing the tray for other components or added functions, but filled the gap with a square plastic sheet. Outside the US, all iPhone 14 models still come with SIM trays in this space.

CTOnews.com understands that iFixit provides close-up images of iPhone 14 Pro Max motherboards soldered with faster A16 Bionic chips and Qualcomm's Snapdragon X65 modem, which offers 5G and satellite connectivity.

While the standard iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus can be opened from the back and feature a more serviceable design, the display and back glass panel are easy to remove, these design changes do not extend to the Pro models. The disassembly results show that the iPhone 14 Pro Max can only be opened from the front, the back glass does not support disassembly, and the internal design of the machine has not changed much from the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

The iPhone 14 Pro model doesn't have a removable back glass, making repairs more expensive. Without AppleCare +, Apple stores charge $3598 and $3998 for repairs to broken rear glass on iPhone 14 Pro models, compared with $1298 and $1548 for standard iPhone 14 models.

iFixit shared a teardown of the iPhone 14 earlier this week, praising the device's easier to repair interior design, and the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are the first iPhone models since the iPhone 4S that can be opened from the back of the device. iFixit gave the iPhone 14 a 7 for serviceability, the highest score since the 2016 iPhone 7 (out of 10), in other words, the easiest iPhone to repair in six years.
