Officials say that from the establishment of the forum to the present, Shuimu has been relying on the full support and selfless dedication of the majority of netizens: it is the moderators who voluntarily spend a lot of time maintaining the content and order of the page; it is the technical station work until the middle of the night to modify and update the code like living fossils of water wood; it is the station service that brings in its own technical team to bring free technical maintenance and development. It is some legendary veterans who relied on facial scanning to save part of the operation and maintenance expenses from their Internet counterparts; most importantly, relying on the feelings of the vast number of netizens, mainly alumni of colleges and universities, we have struggled to survive to this day.

Officials say that at a time when advertising revenue is meagre and management expenses have increased significantly, the operation of Shuimu website is difficult. Under the crisis, it is difficult for the station to carry it through on its own.

CTOnews.com learned that Shuimu Community was formerly known as Tsinghua University's BBS Mumu Tsinghua, which was founded in 1995. It was renamed Shuimu Community in 2005 and retained all the editions of Shuimu Tsinghua BBS Station as of March 16, 2005.
