According to news in the afternoon of September 20, Beijing time, Indian online gaming platform Winzo today filed a lawsuit against Google to prevent Google from providing "real money games" (real-money games) services.

In most parts of India, users can play "technical"real money games" (making money by playing games). Skill games mean that the results of the game mainly depend on the user's skills such as knowledge, training, attention and experience, such as card games and fantasy sports games.

For years, Google has not offered a "real money game" service in India. As part of a year-long pilot program, Google said earlier this month that fantasy sports and card games might join its Indian Play Store app store.

Google said in a policy update that these two categories of games include those in which "contestants use their knowledge of sporting events and athletes to develop strategies or memorize playing cards". In addition, Google did not mention other game categories or how they were treated.

Winzo offers paid services for these categories of games, as well as many other paid games, such as board games, puzzles and racing games. Obviously, Google's new policy will affect Winzo's business.

In a lawsuit filed with the Delhi High Court, Winzo said it had contacted Google on September 10 to challenge its updated policy, calling it "unfair". But there was no response from Google, which forced the court to intervene.

Winzo said in the lawsuit that Google's decision was "tantamount to unfair trade practices." Google has yet to comment.

The Winzo lawsuit comes as the Indian government team seeks to set up a regulator to classify online games according to skills or lucky ingredients, introduce rules to block banned game categories and take a stricter stance on gambling sites.

Winzo has about 85 million users in India. On average, each of these users spends about an hour a day on their platform. Winzo's revenue in 2020-21 was about $13 million, according to the lawsuit.
