Professor Zhang Yuegang of Tsinghua University said at the event that with the transformation and upgrading of global energy, the demand for battery energy density is increasing. As an important development direction of innovative breakthrough technology in the battery industry, lithium metal battery is expected to more than double the mileage of electric vehicles in the future.

Professor Zhang Yuegang said that the full opening of the Lithium Metal Battery Automation Manufacturing Line of Mengwei Technology shows that China's batch delivery capability of 500Wh/kg high-end energy power battery products has been in the leading position in the world, realizing the breakthrough of lithium metal battery from the laboratory stage (TRL3) to the product batch delivery stage (TRL6-8).

CTOnews.com learned that public data show that lithium batteries can be divided into two categories: lithium-metal batteries and lithium-ion batteries. Among them, lithium-metal battery was first proposed and studied by Gilbert N. Lewis in 1912. Its safety, specific capacity, self-discharge rate and performance-price ratio are better than lithium-ion battery, but due to its own high technical requirements, only a few countries are producing this kind of lithium-metal battery.
